What the world is coming to

18 Nov

Read this article : http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/11/15/BUNI1AB1G2.DTL

If you’re one of my regular readers, you know how absolutely insane it makes me when people type (or bring it one step further by actually SPEAKING) in acronyms. Text Speak as I like to call it.

The article posted above addresses the issue of society developing shorter attention spans. To what do we owe such a reverse in evolution? The ever expanding world of technology of course.

I began using Twitter about 6 months ago to see what all the fuss was about. I didn’t see how 140 characters could be so addictive and enticing to people. Admittedly, I got sucked in for a while, but I haven’t used Twitter in several months now. Why? Because it’s POINTLESS. It’s another Social Networking Site that is ruining the world.

And please, don’t get me wrong. I love having a presence on the internet. I love my readers. But here’s the difference between my blogging and people using Twitter. I write complete thoughts. I spell my words out. I don’t use acronyms several times throughout a sentence because I’m too lazy to spell the words out.

And that’s another thing! This text speak and short attention span-itis…. is causing people to use TERRIBLE grammar.

I will admit that in my spare time I often go on Facebook. Sometimes I take the quizzes that are available. And I do believe that I have yet to stumble across a single quiz sans spelling errors and grammatically butchered sentences.

WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?

Read that article and tell me your thoughts. I’d love to hear them.

Also, thank you to Motormouth for bringing the article to my attention.

Our Burden to Bear

15 Oct

Author’s Note: This is definitely not one of my best pieces, but I think it’s got a good message.

Our Burden to Bear

Take the time to hold open a door
Don’t do it for the thanks or the glory
Do it because it’s the right thing to do
Do it because you’re supposed to
The world would be a better place if people understood
Nobody acts the way that they should
Disrespect is spreading like the plague
It will destroy us all one day
The cure is so simple
Respect is something you have to give to receive
That is what I firmly believe
So if you respect me then I’ll respect you
And if you respect someone else, they’ll respect you too
And if we all keep this cycle going
If eventually we can all live knowing
That harsh words aren’t said behind closed doors
There would be no murder, no rape
Suicide would not be an escape
People wouldn’t WANT to die
They’d want to live, they’d want to try
Don’t you see, right now we’re the cause
And we need to be the solution
We’re adding to this pollution
We’re destroying the world in which we live
We’re taking so much and have so little to give
We expect things to be handed to us on a silver platter
We think so many things don’t matter
When the truth is they’re so consequential
I find that it’s essential
To accept the burden the world bears
Take a little bit of the weight on your own shoulders
It’s only fair
And if we all pitch in, if we all try
No single person will have to hold up the sky
It would be a group effort, a perfect unity
It’s so simple, don’t you see?
The world’s dying and it doesn’t need to be
If only we took the time to care
To hold a door open when someone else is there
This is our burden to bear

Cold World, Hardened Hearts

8 May

Excerpts from “Cold World, Hardened Hearts”… It’s 5 pages… so I’m only posting bits and pieces.. but I’d REALLY appreciate it if you’d take the time to read it…and feedback is always appreciated.

Cold World, Hardened Hearts

No one’s listening and no one cares
No one seems to hear my prayers
I’m getting pulled beneath the surface
In my life I’ve lost all purpose

Lost any strength to care
Life is just so unfair
But that’s the way it has been forever
I’m searching for the secret lever
To open up the secret door
To a world where no one could ask for more

Everyone near and far would come
To experience the feeling of bliss
Something no one can find in this
World so cold in which we dwell
So cold yet it feels like hell
So cold that it burns
Watching as the world turns
Slowly to reach the beginning of the end
Waiting to start over again
Maybe the new world will be improved
I hope that someone has been moved
By the words that cross their stricken face
Hope you recognize the evil in this place
Corrupt ways have become every day life
People pulling guns and knives
Likes it’s no big thing, like it won’t affect
Anyone, we all chose to neglect
There’s hunger, starvation
It’s sweeping the nation
No one does a damn thing
Don’t even try to tell me people bring
Hope and care
Only when someone’s there
To acknowledge it
This makes me sick
So few will do things on their own
Unless they’ll be placed on some sort of throne

… when people do help it’s not from pity
It’s for fame and popularity
You’ve got so much to offer, to give
You can stop this death and help people live
But you chose to stand by and just say “too bad”
Yeah, well I really hope you’re glad
Because there’s so much to do
So many places to see
To understand what this would mean to me
And everyone for that matter
Just climb up the ladder
Just let go and feel the pull of gravity
Then you tell me if you see
What it’s like to live in such a place
Where pain is a feeling you can’t erase
It’s all you’ve ever felt and known
Haven’t got a place to call your own
Don’t live in million dollar mansions…
You don’t need to add new expansions
To the perfect things your life already contains
Your health and your happiness still remains
While there are people out there getting killed
Too many tears wasted, too much blood spilled
Do something, come on, step up to the plate
I’ll give you the key to open the gate
But do it because you know that it’s right
Don’t do it because you feel you must fight
For fame or popularity or glory
God this is a disgusting story
You people make me so damn sick
I’m watching a new dog do the same old tricks
And it’s getting old, I’m getting tired
If I could, I’d say that you’re all fired
From this life because you don’t appreciate
The things that were brought to you by fate
You were chosen to have a good life
You don’t have to face the kind of strife
That other people live with on a daily basis
Half of you can’t even face this:
Pain is a part of today and tomorrow
Everyone feels anguish and sorrow
That doesn’t mean that you just give in
You keep on fighting until you win
You keep marching on and keep pushing forward
You’ll find that there’s something to look toward
A new day, a new light, you can find the way
I’m looking up to the sky, please hear me say
I have faith that we can make it through this existence
We’ve got to get past the feelings of resistance
You’ve got to understand the depth that I possess
You need to know that this is how I progress
No other way to let my emotions show
This is the only way to let you know
The way that I’m feeling and the way that things are
You don’t realize that one word goes so far

So I’m just asking for understanding
It’s not something that I’m demanding
It’s just something that I’m requesting
I hope you realize while you’re resting

… I push on and pull forward until I’ve reached the end of the rope
And I realize that there’s still hope
That there’s still time for people to comprehend
The message that I’m trying to send
And if this touched anyone
That means that my work here is done
But if it hasn’t, I’ll just try another time
I’ll just make another rhyme

And hope that you can find simplicity
In my words because I know more than you think
I’m a fountain of understanding, come take a drink
Become a part of me
See what I see
Know and understand
Don’t just write things in the sand
Write them in stone
Don’t leave this alone

This is my elimination
This is my amputation
From the world of people with hardened hearts
I watch in dismay as the horror starts
Just another day of futile stress
Just watching as you chose to repress
I can’t stand the way people act these days
Please can’t you remove the haze
Make me see why no one cares
Why no one acknowledges the burden when they know it’s there
I guess I’ll never understand
Why no one can comply with my demand
But it’s ok because I’ve just accepted
That this is a world that’s been neglected
So here is my full attention
I’m giving everyone a suspension
I’ll try to fix this on my own
Allow my efforts to be shown
Just know that I’m the type that cares
I recognize the burden that this world bears
And I swear I’ll do whatever it takes
To relieve the world from its mistakes

Judge Me

28 Apr

Maybe the heat is getting to me. Or maybe I’m really tired of people thinking they know me when they haven’t got a clue….

P.S. One profanity is present.

P.P.S. If you are easily offended, I only recommend you read the last part of this, beginning at the underlined line.

Judge Me

Judge me, please, if you dare
Cross the line you know is there
Do it, see if I care
Have your words, then I’ll have my share
You’ll wish it was something you’d never begun
You’ll be staring down the barrel of a loaded gun
Because I have the ability
To make you feel, quite literally
Like you’re a worthless piece of shit
So, please, I dare you; go ahead, do it
Tell me what you think of me
Tell me what it is you see
Tell me I’m awful for the things I write
Tell me when I say I might
Just show you the best in me
It’s really the worst that you see
Because I write so bitterly
And misery loves company
Tell me I’m too young to be so cynical
Tell me I’m depressed and that it’s clinical
Judge me; please, go ahead
I can make you wish you were dead
I’ve got that ability you know
I can tear you open and then show
You the darkest side of yourself
The one you placed high on a shelf
The one you don’t want anyone to know about
I’ll tell the people you don’t want to find out
I’ll expose your biggest mistakes
I’ll make you relive all your heartaches
I’m a terrible person if you tell me I am
Happiness is just a scam
I’m evil, if that’s what you believe
My politeness is just there to deceive
But before you judge me, keep in mind
That the only way I can find
The inspiration to make my art
Is looking for the darkest part
Of the world or of my heart
And using that as a place to start
Happiness is not inspiring
When most people are retiring
To their beds for the night
I’m just starting up the fight
Because the darkness has set
And I can’t forget
The awful things that happen here
How many murders in a year
Or even in a single day
How many people pray
How many of those prayers go unheard
How many people never get what they deserve?
I’m sad for them, don’t you see?
What you think is the worst in me
Is really just my way of showing
All the things that are worth knowing
But nobody takes the time to listen
I’ve made it my life’s mission
To make people see the light
To put down the guns and stop the fight
So keep that in mind before you say
That you’re going to judge me today
Because you don’t know what I go through
To do what I feel I have to do
And if you try to get in my way
I will have the final say
You’ll be miserable and wish you never tried
To tell me that I’ve never cried
