Sexism? Really? Still?
Okay, I’m going to be honest here; feminists piss me off. They really do. “Wahh Wahh. We want equality.” And then, lo and behold, they’ve got “equality,” but “wahh, wahh, we want MORE.”
I was reading Newsweek this morning, and I came across their “Book Club,” which literally has a tag line that reads:
“We Read It [So You Don’t Have To]” → I will digress for a minute now. What the HELL? Are we really that lazy?
This is a post for another time. Back to the whiney women.
I was looking through the titles to see if there are any good books I should be READING, and this one jumped out at me: Enlightened Sexism by Susan J. Douglas.
This is what it said under the “What’s The Big Deal” section of the “Book Club”
“Enlightened Sexism picks up where last year’s Shriver Report on the state of the
American woman left off, going beyond Shriver’s claim that the battle of the
sexes is over to show just how much it’s not. Sure, in 2010, women can play sports,
go to college, and get jobs previously reserved for men. But in exchange, we must
obsess about our faces, breasts, weight, and clothes. How’s that for progress?”
Okay. Now, how about lets get realistic for a second? Women are CRAZY. We’re always going to worry about or faces, breasts, weight, and clothes. We’re WOMEN. If some of us don’t worry about that, excellent, but that has absolutely NOTHING to do with sexism and women’s rights. Nothing.
How about this, ladies. If you want to be “equal,” truly 100% EQUAL, then stop complaining when a guy doesn’t hold the door open for you, or expects you to pay for your half of the dinner bill. How about maybe you pay the entire dinner bill for once? Hmm? Doesn’t sound good to you? Then shut up about having to wear a little make-up and not being “equal.”
Seriously.
Now, don’t get me wrong here. I’m all for equality. I really am. I just really don’t see how whining about wearing makeup and your weight are making progress. Did you know that women comprise 52% of the workforce? Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of women? So maybe, just maybe, worrying about your weight isn’t a BAD thing, since obesity can lead to heart disease. Gosh. Common sense. Who knew?
