Avatar = Amazing

1 Jan

I saw Avatar in 3D tonight.

Written and Directed by James Cameron (obviously LOVE him).

Music by James Horner (LOOOVE him…see my post personally thanking him for inspiring me)

It was a fantastic movie and I recommend seeing it. (Yeah, this is going to be another post where I try to convince you to go see this movie and assure you you’ll be a better person for it. Yeah, I do that a lot… it’s kind of my thing. But… I’m not lying. I promise.)

Forget about the fact that it’s a science fiction movie. If that’s not your thing… it doesn’t even matter. You’ll forget. You’ll get so wrapped up in the story… you’ll become so involved with the characters, that it becomes irrelevant.

It’s a long movie, but you don’t even realize it because you’re so caught up in it.

This movie made me even more disgusted with war than I already was. It drew a lot of parallels to what we did to the Native American people. It also brought in modern warfare to draw parallels to what we’re doing NOW… and what we’ll no doubt continue to do.

It also cleverly mentioned how, in 2134(or something to that effect), we had managed to destroy our own planet and had to go elsewhere. And sure enough, we managed to destroy a good portion of that planet, too.

Pandora, the planet the movie takes place on… is just immaculately conceived. It’s beautiful. I’m nothing but impressed with James Cameron. I wish I could explain the beauty in words but I just can’t see myself doing it any justice. Truly.

The trailers do the movie NO justice. I wasn’t even interested in seeing the movie based on the trailer, but I love James Cameron and I had heard nothing but good reviews, so I gave it a shot. You should too. The movie came out mid December… and the theater was STILL packed to the maximum tonight.

When the film ended, the theater erupted in applause.

We sat through most of the credits to see who the music was by. I had a feeling it was James Horner because whenever the music evokes such strong emotions from me, it’s him. And sure enough, it was. Two of my absolute favorites together again. James and James, a dynamic duo for sure.

I can’t post a trailer this time, because as I said, they just do it no justice. You’ll have to take my word for it this time.

Hey, have I ever steered you wrong before?

HTML Trials and Tribulations

3 Sep

I’ve been working a lot with HTML recently.

I’ve done a lot of work with HTML in the past, but I hadn’t done it for quite a few years.

I’ve got a page designed and I’m pretty pleased with it. It’s kind of based on the look of my Kelly MacIntyre Photography and Videography site. I even included music and a ticker at the top of the page.

Now I’m at a loss, though, because I have no way of publishing it. A few years ago I bought the domain name kellymacintyre.com.  It seemed like I good idea at the time… but I bought it from some stupid google hosting site and I never could figure it out. I have since forgotten how to even access my account. I’m not even sure if it still exists or if it expired.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew a way I could link the site I made to THIS site so people can take a look at it. I’m not having any luck and I honestly doubt it can be done… bummer.

Musical Thievery

14 Aug

I hate the song “All Summer Long” by Kid Rock….. the reasons include, but are not limited to:

The very beginning sounds a HELL of a lot like “Werewolves of London” by Warren Zevon… which, incidentally, is a song that I love. Because I love “Werewolves of London,” and “All Summer Long”  sounds like the beginning of that song, I get my hopes up, only to have them shattered.

Not only does the song steal the intro melody of THAT song, they steal whole pieces of “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynard Skynard. Come on, Kid Rock, have you really lost all ability to think for yourself? Is it not possible to come up with something original? It’s one thing to do a cover of a song, but to steal parts of other songs and then call it your own… that is just musical theivery. Like when Vanilla Ice did “Ice, Ice Baby” and stole the beginning of Queen’s “Under Pressure”.

And then, to top it all off, every time the song comes on the radio, someone turns it up.. like “Oh my GOD! I LOVE this song..” And inside, I die a little.

Kid Rock, for you, I have lost all respect. Not that I really had much in the first place.

Musical Advice

8 Apr

I’ve been getting advice tossed at me from all directions today.

The only advice worth sharing is from a song on my iTunes.

The Spill Canvas:

“The Tide”

“Heaven’s not a place that you go when you die.
It’s that moment in life when you actually feel alive
So live for the moment.”

What is a masterpiece?

18 Feb

masterpiece |ˈmastərˌpēs|
noun
a work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship : a great literary masterpiece | the car was a masterpiece of space-age technology.
• an artist’s or craftsman’s best piece of work : the painting is arguably Picasso’s masterpiece.

That is what the dictionary says.

To me, a masterpiece is a piece of art that can evoke a powerful emotion.  It can be a photograph, a film, a song, a painting, a book, a poem.. anything really.

I like to feel my music. This is one of the reasons I enjoy so many different types of music. I love certain classical pieces because they inspire me. I love music that makes me REALLY want to dance. I like some music with a powerful bass line so when I turn it up all the way I feel the beat in my body. I love music that makes me want to cry, and equally I love music that makes me happy.

Poetry is similar. Especially now, a lot of the poetry IS music. I feel a definite closeness to poetry and all poets because I too am a poet. (Read my work!) To me a great poem gives me chills. It haunts me, or it sticks with me. If I read a line and it is then engraved in my memory, it is a masterpiece to me.

Same with books, movies, etc. If it evokes emotion from me.. it’s good.. and if that emotion is powerful.. it just might be a masterpiece.

Songs that make me feel:

(That have been recently played in my iTunes.)

- I Dare you to move – Switchfoot

- Epiphany – Staind (I actually had a seizure during this song today… that’s pretty powerful i’d say)

- A Different Kind of Pain – Cold

- Because you loved me – Celine Dion (Dedicated to Sonja)

- The Scientist – Coldplay

- Scars – Papa Roach

- The Portrait – James Horner (From “Titanic”[when Jack is drawing Rose] –which I absolutely LOVE)

- There goes my life – Kenny Chesney

- Cannon in D – Pachbelle

- Forever Young – Bob Dylan

- Kiss The Rain – Starfield

- No one would Riot for less – Bright Eyes (also my YouTube ID)

- Most songs by Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes)

Plenty more… these are the recent ones.
