Avatar = Amazing

1 Jan

I saw Avatar in 3D tonight.

Written and Directed by James Cameron (obviously LOVE him).

Music by James Horner (LOOOVE him…see my post personally thanking him for inspiring me)

It was a fantastic movie and I recommend seeing it. (Yeah, this is going to be another post where I try to convince you to go see this movie and assure you you’ll be a better person for it. Yeah, I do that a lot… it’s kind of my thing. But… I’m not lying. I promise.)

Forget about the fact that it’s a science fiction movie. If that’s not your thing… it doesn’t even matter. You’ll forget. You’ll get so wrapped up in the story… you’ll become so involved with the characters, that it becomes irrelevant.

It’s a long movie, but you don’t even realize it because you’re so caught up in it.

This movie made me even more disgusted with war than I already was. It drew a lot of parallels to what we did to the Native American people. It also brought in modern warfare to draw parallels to what we’re doing NOW… and what we’ll no doubt continue to do.

It also cleverly mentioned how, in 2134(or something to that effect), we had managed to destroy our own planet and had to go elsewhere. And sure enough, we managed to destroy a good portion of that planet, too.

Pandora, the planet the movie takes place on… is just immaculately conceived. It’s beautiful. I’m nothing but impressed with James Cameron. I wish I could explain the beauty in words but I just can’t see myself doing it any justice. Truly.

The trailers do the movie NO justice. I wasn’t even interested in seeing the movie based on the trailer, but I love James Cameron and I had heard nothing but good reviews, so I gave it a shot. You should too. The movie came out mid December… and the theater was STILL packed to the maximum tonight.

When the film ended, the theater erupted in applause.

We sat through most of the credits to see who the music was by. I had a feeling it was James Horner because whenever the music evokes such strong emotions from me, it’s him. And sure enough, it was. Two of my absolute favorites together again. James and James, a dynamic duo for sure.

I can’t post a trailer this time, because as I said, they just do it no justice. You’ll have to take my word for it this time.

Hey, have I ever steered you wrong before?

3D Movies

3 Aug

I bought Coraline on DVD this afternoon and decided to watch it.

I saw it in theaters when it first came out (in 3D), and it was very good. It was a cool experience and it had a great creepy aspect to it… plus I LOVE Teri Hatcher.

I kept the 3D classes from the theaters, mostly because they told me not to, but I figured they’d come in handy when I bought the movie.

The DVD came with 4 pairs of cheap 3D glasses (you know, the ones with the two different color lenses)

I tried those at first and all they did was distort the colors of the screen. They didn’t do much to enhance the 3D effect (and yes, I made sure I was on the 3D side of the disc). So then, I tried the glasses that I kept from the theater, and those made the colors look normal, but those didn’t really enhance the 3D effect either.

Eventually, I stopped the movie and flipped the disc to the 2D side and decided to just watch the movie that way.

The moral… if you want to watch a movie in 3D, watch it in the theaters… the cheap glasses suck and the ones from the theaters only work in the theater… go figure.

Hooray!

1 Aug

I have many things to say hooray about this evening.

I finally got my new mattress (and, with the box spring, it’s VERY high).

The Surprise 50th Birthday party for my mom was tonight. I was SUPER nervous that she was going to be PISSED because she stated very clearly several times that she did NOT want a party, especially not a surprise party.

Lucky for me, I was pretty much off the hook in the blame department beacuse I wasn’t really involved (much to my dismay) in the planning and it most certainly was not my idea.

But, she came in and was very surprised and very happy… so the evening went very well.

Mike’s parents got me the papers to fill out in order to get my passport so that we can go to St. Martin next summer (because they are renewing their wedding vows there), and I am SUPER excited for that.

I received more birthday cards/presents today…(among which were a gift card to one of my favorite stores, money to go towards my new computer/passport, a beautiful frame for my newly decorated room, and another book by Jennifer Weiner)… which definitely made me smile : ]

AND… I went to the Drive-In movies in Pleasant Valley last night. That was definitely an experience. I’d done it before, but not since I was very young. It was a double feature: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Terminator. We only stayed for the first movie because it started at 9 pm and the theater was about an hour and a half away from home and I had to work this morning. What a disgusting sentence.. but I’m sleep deprived so… we’ll blame that.
