I’m going to share a cool secret with you!

I was super excited when I got my iPhone. I immediately downloaded all the (free) apps I could think of that I could use.

I was very dissapointed when I discovered that Newsweek did not have a free app. They have a paid app, but the reviews are less than flattering, and as it turns out, entire articles are not available via the app anyway.

Luckily, I figured out a VERY cool trick. If you visit the Newsweek website on Safari on the iPhone (or iPod touch), it automatically appears in an iPhone friendly format. If you click the + symbol at the bottom and select “Add to Home Screen,” not only will it add an icon to your home screen just like every other App icon, it also has a built in thumbnail that says Newsweek. From then on, all you have to do is click the icon on your homescreen and it’s just like having the App, only it’s free and it’s the entire website.

I also did this for Google Talk, because there isn’t a free app for that, either.

Pretty cool, huh? And you can do it with virtually any website (but keep in mind not EVERY website will have a built in thumbnail when you add it to the homescreen. If that is the case, a screenshot of the page is used instead.)

iPad — The Apple Tablet

Okay, so the newest thing from Apple is the iPad, which is essentially a hybrid iPhone/iPod touch and MacBook.

Starting at just $500, I’m sure it’s going to be the next Cash Cow for Apple.

I WANT one… but I’m definitely going to hold out, because currently it’s new new new technology and there are always tons of glitches to work out. Also, it does not currently have a camera, and I can only assume they will come out with a new model which will have one camera, possibly two. (One on the back like an iPhone, and one on the front like a MacBook). That way, people can use it as a regular camera and also use it to video chat via iChat and possibly Skype, which they won’t be able to do in the model they’ve got now.

Either way, this is incredible technology and something I’ve been waiting for basically since I was old enough to understand what technology was. And Apple is smart, they’re going to hear all the complaints about everything the current design of the iPad is lacking, and fix it. And then I’m going to buy one.

Updates

I saw The Time Traveler’s Wife on Friday… and I thought it was wonderful. I’ve heard a lot of complaints that people who read the book hated the movie.. but that’s exactly why I waited. I plan on starting the book tonight, actually. I also heard a lot of complaints that there were too many “nude” scenes… but I’ve got to say, that’s part of the story and it wasn’t anything obscene… it wasn’t like soft core porn or anything like that..it was very tastefully done. I definitely recommend seeing the movie if you haven’t read the book… and then I recommend reading the book as I know it will be wonderful as well!

Amie’s benefit was yesterday… and it was, ultimately, a success. We raised a decent amount of money selling tickets… and then the winner of the tractor donated it back to Amie, so she got the worth of the tractor as well, which is wonderful.

I went to my first ever swap meet with Michael today.. it was a VW specific one… and Mike bought me a tye dye shirt… so I’m embracing my inner hippie. That was a good time.

We’re leaving tomorrow for Mertly Beach for a week and a half.. give or take a day or two. I’m REALLY excited about that because we’ve got a beach house… and I rarely travel far (except when it’s with Mike’s family… we went to California a few years ago… and we’re going to St. Marteen next year). Mike’s new computer is supposed to come tomorrow too so I’m pretty excited about that. I think he’s more excited that he can plug his new iPod touch into it so he can play with that… (he’s been waiting for the computer to sync the iPod)

All that being said… I will most likely not be posting while away since I’ve also just gotten my summer assignments…. wonderful timing indeed. But I promise I’ll make up for it by posting some wonderful pictures when I get back.

I also noticed that I said wonderful far too many times in this post… I need a new word, I think.

New Technology and Older Technology

With help from Michael, I got my new computer and all the software I wanted.What a fantastic guy, huh? Just one of the MANY reasons I love him so much : ]

New Purchases

24 inch iMac… that sucker is huge on my desk!

Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium… excellent

We decided to get the free 8GB iPod Touch for Michael (he was pretty excited about that)

We also ordered Michael an iBook G4 with Leopard installed… sure, it’s older technology, but he only needs it for internet and iTunes and it was a great price.

I’m loving my new computer. It’s fantastic to work on my pictures on such a large screen.

Mike’s computer is scheduled to arrive right before we leave for North Carolina… which is excellent timing.
