Do you ever…

19 Jul

Feel like you need a break from technology?

Feel like telling some one else they need a break from technology?

I do. Especially lately.

I haven’t watched television for several weeks (with the exception of catching the last 2 episodes of True Blood on the computer [which were fantastic, by the way]), but I mean, most people watch tv, what, 5-8 hours per day? So many people I know even watch tv when they’re going to bed. Even I used to do it.

But no more.

Instead, I’ve been reading. I read until I can’t keep my eyes open anymore and then I go to bed. I read instead of watching tv when I’m not doing anything else. Recently, I’ve been re-reading the Harry Potter books, but I’ve been reading them backwards. It started out as just re-reading the 7th book because the movie trailer was recently released… then I decided I would like to read the whole series again, but I’ve done that more times than I can count (literally). So I figured I’d switch it up this time. I’ve got to say, it’s really quite interesting because I pick up on things that I may have overlooked reading them normally. (I finished 7 and 6 and am currently half way through 5).

Anyway, taking a break from TV has been one of the best things I’ve done recently. I’m considering taking a break from the computer as well. I had a moment earlier today when I wanted to delete my facebook account and just be done with it, but I didn’t. I don’t REALLY want to delete my facebook, I’m just really tired of everyone talking about facebook all the time. Facebook facebook facebook. Marsha Marsha Marsha. Same concept. It’s literally gotten to the point that people are telling me what’s happening on my facebook page before I even have a chance to sign in. Give me a freakin break. I don’t live in front of the computer screen monitoring my facebook profile 24/7. And as far as I’m concerned, I think some people are starting to spend an unhealthy amount of time on the computer/internet/facebook.

I mean, really, how many hours per day do you think the average facebook user is logged on and actively using facebook? I don’t really think I even want to know.

So yeah, I think I just really would like a break from technology for a while. And this is coming from a self-proclaimed technology whore. Seriously.

Hooray!

1 Aug

I have many things to say hooray about this evening.

I finally got my new mattress (and, with the box spring, it’s VERY high).

The Surprise 50th Birthday party for my mom was tonight. I was SUPER nervous that she was going to be PISSED because she stated very clearly several times that she did NOT want a party, especially not a surprise party.

Lucky for me, I was pretty much off the hook in the blame department beacuse I wasn’t really involved (much to my dismay) in the planning and it most certainly was not my idea.

But, she came in and was very surprised and very happy… so the evening went very well.

Mike’s parents got me the papers to fill out in order to get my passport so that we can go to St. Martin next summer (because they are renewing their wedding vows there), and I am SUPER excited for that.

I received more birthday cards/presents today…(among which were a gift card to one of my favorite stores, money to go towards my new computer/passport, a beautiful frame for my newly decorated room, and another book by Jennifer Weiner)… which definitely made me smile : ]

AND… I went to the Drive-In movies in Pleasant Valley last night. That was definitely an experience. I’d done it before, but not since I was very young. It was a double feature: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Terminator. We only stayed for the first movie because it started at 9 pm and the theater was about an hour and a half away from home and I had to work this morning. What a disgusting sentence.. but I’m sleep deprived so… we’ll blame that.

***Possible Spoilers if you have yet to read the book/see the movie****

Yes, I saw it.

And I LOVED it. It was spectacular. I was most anticipating the scene in the cave when Harry and Dumbledore were retrieving the horcrux, and I was very pleased with how they chose to portray it.

I laughed, mostly at Rupert Grint’s humor… (that’s Ron if you don’t know) and when Harry drank his “liquid luck’.

I jumped when the corpses came out of the water during the cave scene.

I blinked away tears when Snape killed Dumbledore.

All the elements of a truly brilliant film.

Yes, they left out some very key elements, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt since they’re splitting the 7th book into two movies.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Call me a loser, dork, whatever the Harry Potter equivalent to a Trekie is, I am going CRAZY just knowing that I haven’t seen the new HP movie yet. Literally, crazy. Like a junkie unable to get their fix. And I don’t want to supplement it by reading the book because that will only make the movie suck. I made that mistake with OOTP, I re-read it right before the film came out, and was terribly disappointed because they changed/left out SO much. Watching OOTP now, though, it is a wonderful film.. because the whole story is not fresh fresh fresh in my head.

Now understand this, I am absolutely not ashamed that I am a Harry Potter fan, especially since the books came out when I was very young. I know a lot of people try to pretend they’re not into that stuff now that they’re “grown up and mature,” but I say eff that. If you loved something when you were young, you’re still going to love it. Like all the Disney movies. The Lion King still makes me cry, and yes, I try to watch at least one Disney movie each year.

Regardless, I have decided that I am going to see the earliest showing of HP6 tomorrow morning, otherwise I just might go completely insane. The Kicker? I’m going by myself. Why I don’t care: well, I think you get that by this whole post.
